Welcome to the Department of Physiology and Pathophysiology
The Department of Physiology and Pathophysiology was established in July 2013by integrating the Department of Physiology withthe Department of Pathophysiology, which were bothfounded in 1951.Currently, the departmentbelongs to the class II discipline and isaccredited to award master and doctoral degrees. The department also provides opportunities for postdoctoral trainings, and is supported by the 13thFive-YearPlan and First-Class Discipline Leading Plan projects in the university.The department chair leads Tianjin Physiological Science Association as well as the Cardiac Basic Research Committee of Tianjin Heart Association.
The department is committed to excellence research and teaching. Currently, the department has 47 faculty and staff members, including 14 full professors, 8 associate professors, 14 instructors, and 3 senior technicians. Many faculty members have been commissioned as excellent teachers by Tianjin Municipal Government or Tianjin Medical University, and have other honorary titles and awards.The faculty members are of rich teaching experiences and have remarkable teaching achievements withvarious teaching awards at the National and State levels. The department undertakes the teaching tasks for more than 10 specialtiesin the Schools of Basic Medical Science, Pharmacy School, Stomatology, Public Health, Nursing, and Medical Laboratory, with an average of 5,800 class hours per year and 157 class hours per person.Since the establishment of the department,across-disciplines teaching model for young teachers has been implemented, and all the department members are actively involved in the initiation of various teaching reform projects in the school and the university. The department has been honored with many teaching awards including the First Place Prize at the National Medical Students Experimental Innovation Design Competition.
The department has 8independent PI laboratories and the research fields cover cardiovascular physiology and pathophysiology, metabolic diseases, hematological malignancy (multiple myeloma), and nervous physiology.In the last three years, our department has obtained a total of 13.29 million research funding fromthe National Natural Science Foundation of China, Natural Science Foundation of Tianjin, and has published many importantSCI papers in prestigious international journals. Over 20 doctoral students and 40 master students have been granted their degreesand three students have been awarded the honor of the outstanding graduate students from Tianjin Medical University.Furthermore, four students have been awarded theoutstanding Communist Youth League members from the Graduate School of Tianjin Medical University.
The Department of Physiology and Pathophysiology provides excellent opportunities for medical education and scientific research to undergraduates, graduates, and outstanding scientific researchers. It is located on the 9thand 10thfloors of the main building of the School of Basic Medical Sciences.
