The School of Basic Medical Sciences was established in 1952. The School of Basic Medical Sciences consists of 16 departments and 1 experimental center for students. There are now 370 faculty staffmember including 74 professors and 79 associate professors.
The school has 404 graduate students including 145 Ph.D. students and 259 M.S. students. The school also has 1948 undergraduate students, among them 714 students are majoring in 5+3 program (including 119 in Pediatrics) of clinical medicine, 18 students in seven-year program of clinical medicine, 93 students in basic medical sciences, 489 students in the five-year program of clinical medicine, and 157 students in anesthesiology, respectively.
The two Tianjin-International Joint Research Centers including the Cell Microenvironment and Disease center and Cardiovascular Disease center, have established close collaborations in scientific researches with Cambridge University, Michigan University, Oklahoma University, Pittsburgh University, Georgia University, Toronto University, Manitoba University, Tampere University, Karolinska Institute and other prestigious institutions, and joint-programs for young faculty members and graduate students.
