   The School of Nursing is one of 23 academic schools and departments at Tianjin Medical University which is located in central Tianjin. Tianjin Medical University was the first medical university approved by the State Council after the establishment of the People’s Republic of China and, has been named as one of the key national universities in China for development in the 21st century.

 

    The School of Nursing was founded in August 1983 and was the first in P.R. China to offer a bachelor’s nursing degree program; so it has a well-established history of providing pre-registration nursing courses. In 1993, the master’s nursing degree program was approved by the State Council Academic Degree Committe. The doctor’s nursing degree progam was created in 2008. The duration of bachelor nursing degree program is 5 years. The MSc program and the PhD program both extend for 3 years for full-time students. The School of Nursing enjoys a national reputation for excellence in nursing science. The National Nursing Higher Education Committee was established in 1996 and concurrently set up an institute at the School.

 

    The School of Nursing is committed to improving the development of nursing education and conducting high-quality applied research that provides evidence to enhance nursing and health care services. The school also places great emphasis on student support and have many people and processes in place to facilitate personal, academic and professional development. Students are provided excellent and advanced learning opportunities and an intellectually stimulating environment.

 

    The nursing education at the School of Nursing aims to serve the whole population and society. In order to achieve this ideal, the school is the first to offer courses related psychology, ethics, sociology and aspects of personal development,. Meanwhile, following internationally developing trends within nursing, it is the first school within China to establish major courses, community health and palliative care nursing. The improvement not only focuses on study in the campus, but also pays attention to promoting clinical knowledge and skills. Hence, the school maintains a great working relationship with local hospitals and other services across the city of Tianjin, enabling students undertake a wide rage of clinical practice placements in both hospital and community settings. There are approximately twenty general and specialist hospitals and also community health stations available for student’s clinical practice.

 

    The School of Nursing recognizes the value of academic contact and exchange programs and, has collaborated with a number of international nursing institutions and welcomed the visitors from USA, Britain, Canada, Australia, Japan, Finland, and Sweden.

 

    The School of Nursing at Tianjin Medical University is still making effort to contribute to the advancement of nursing science for the future.
