Resume

Research direction

Professor Xilin Yang obtained his PhD degree in epidemiology from the University of Melbourne, Australia in 2002; and completed postdoctoral training and worked as a diabetes epidemiologist at the Chinese University of Hong Kong Faculty of Medicine and presently employed by Tianjin Medical University School of Public Health as professor and head of Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics.

Major research interests are epidemiology of type 2 diabetes and gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM), with a special interest in prevention of GDM and its adverse outcomes. He and coworkers set up the screening and management system for GDM in Tianjin, China in 2000, as the result of “Tianjin Study of Diabetes in Pregnancy” and conducted two translational studies in this population (as a principle investigator and co-investigator), “A Randomized Trial of Effects of Translation of Intervention of Gestational Diabetes into the Three Level-Prenatal Care Network in Tianjin, China” to examine the effectiveness and cost-effectiveness of lifestyle intervention during pregnancy on the pregnancy outcomes of women with GDM; and “Tianjin Gestational Diabetes Prevention Program” to examine the effect of lifestyle intervention at postpartum on the risk of diabetes among women with prior GDM.
