The Department of Occupational and Environmental Health (OEH) is section of School of Public Health. Created in 1978, this department set out to establish educational and research programs in occupational and environmental health, integrating diverse scientific disciplines in its quest to discover, translate and disseminate new knowledge critical to understanding the impact of environmental factors on individuals and human populations. Prof. Nai-jun Tang, PhD, is Chair of the Department of Occupational and Environmental Health and a leader in the study of POPs and EDCs. Dr. Nai-jun Tang's lab focuses on discovering novel mechanisms of chemicals and environmental epidemiology. Dr. Zengrong Suns research focuses on the health effects of environmental endocrine-disrupting chemicals (EDCs).


Faculty, staff, and students in the Department of Occupational and Environmental Health have a fundamental interest in areas of investigation such as:

        Health effects of dioxins and phthalates on populations

        Mechanisms of Persistent Organic Pollutants and Endocrine disruptors

        Measurement of occupational exposures

        With tuition and stipend support, students in OEH are working toward:

        doctoral or masters degrees in occupational and environmental health

        master of public health degrees in occupational and environmental health
